We Use the Most Advanced Technology
We use only the most advanced
technology to protect the information that is important to you. With
isolated Customer Databases, eliminating the concern of unauthorized data
access and database corruption. Our secure server software, Secure Socket
Layer (SSL) keeps all of your personal information, including your credit
card number, name, address and email address, totally safe from unauthorized
access. SSL encrypting of data transmission, hacker safe encoding and other
technology. Most browsers now use SSL to encrypt the information that flows
between your browser and the web server receiving your order. When the lock
or solid key is showing, it means that the browser has established a secure
encrypted connection with the server, meaning it is safe to send sensitive
data like your credit card.

Once you begin a transaction, the
rest of your visit will take place on our secure server. If you are using
either Netscape, Mozilla FireFox or Microsoft browsers, a small key or
padlock will appear in the bottom right corner of your browser, reminding
you of the security of your transaction. Should unauthorized use of your
credit card occur, most banks cover all charges resulting from the
unauthorized use or may limit your liability to just $50.

Your Liability Coverage against Fraud
In the event that your bank
should hold you liable, FreeShop will cover your liability up to $50
providing that the unauthorized use of your credit card resulted through no
fault of your own from purchases made at FreeShop while using the secure
server. Pippin Bass is an authorized participant in MasterCard's “Shop
Smart!" program, which provides today's best available means to safeguard
your transactions. Lets check out one of our secured ordering pages. If it
is secure, the lock or padlock should close.

Online Safety Tips
Internet fraud has many faces: an
online pyramid scheme—no matter how it's disguised, the selling of frequent
flyer miles that aren't transferable, receiving a bogus stock tip in a chat
room or newsgroup, or selling an item in an online auction and never
delivering the goods. These are just some of the ways that crooks try to rip
you off.

The best defense against
cyber-fraud is to try to stop it before you get ripped off. You can take the
following steps to keep fraud out of your online life.
-
Use general caution
when you go on the Internet: If the claims are too good to believe,
maybe you shouldn't believe them. At minimum, check out the claims. For
example, if someone is selling or auctioning frequent flyer miles, check
with the airline to see if those miles can indeed be transferred to you.
-
Check the reputation
of the company or individual who is selling an item or service: If
you are unfamiliar with a company, check with your local government for
a history of complaints against the company. Ask your family and friends
where they do their online business. Remember that a flashy Web site
doesn't make the company honest.
-
Make online purchases
from secure sites only. A secure Web site encrypts the data you send
to it and the data it sends to your computer. Even if someone does
intercept your transaction, it’s very difficult to decrypt it.
-
How do you tell if a
Web site is secure? Look for "https://" at the beginning of the Web
address in your Microsoft® Internet Explorer address box. Also, look for
a lock icon in the bottom right of the browser window. Click the lock
icon to look at the security certificate of the Web site. Make sure the
company on the certificate matches the company on the Web site. Report
the theft or unauthorized use of your credit card to your credit card
company. Depending on the terms of your credit card company, they may
cap your liability at $50.
-
Check the terms and
policies of your credit card issuer. If you suspect you have been
defrauded, follow your credit card company's directions to report the
fraud immediately. This helps you limit your liability and protect your
rights.

Online auction sites:
These sites often have message boards where buyers post information about
their experiences, good and bad, with sellers. Consider the following steps:
-
Before you bid, take a look
at the track record of the seller.
-
Check the Web site's
policies?
-
What is their policy on
returning goods?
-
What are the shipping and
handling fees you'll pay?
-
When will your order be
delivered?
-
Is your credit card charged
after the goods are sent?
-
What is the site's privacy
policy?
-
Keep a record of your
transaction.
-
Print out or write down
information about purchases you make online.
-
Make sure you include details
like: the product description, delivery information, privacy policy,
warranties for the product, confirmation notices, return policy, and the
company's street address and phone number.
-
Use your credit card when you
make purchases. Despite fears about crooks getting your credit card
number, your credit card is the safest way to buy online. When you use
your credit card to make purchases, you have your credit card company to
assist in case of disputes.
-
You also may have limited or
no liability in case of fraud. Check with your credit card company for
specific details.

Consider using an escrow
service to handle payment if you buy on Internet auctions. Escrow
services charge a small fee to ensure you get the merchandise and the
seller gets paid.
Report cases
of Internet fraud. Report cases of fraud to your local
law enforcement officials and your credit card company.
Watch out for any seniors in your life as they use the
Internet. If you suspect your parent or other senior is
a victim of fraud, have a frank discussion with them.
